On Sunday, October 25th, we all dressed up as our favorite Bible characters and hosted an evangelical meeting. The pictures above capture moments from the gathering. Below, everyone shares why they chose their specific Bible character, along with their pictures and artwork.
I chose an animal, a sheep, because that’s how Jesus describes us and Him. Jesus calls to Himself as the Good Shepherd, which means that we’re like sheep, following Jesus. In John 10:27, Jesus says, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." I like how they’re obedient to the shepherd, and do what he says, and I want to do that with Jesus.

I chose to dress up as young David because I admire the way he praised God wholeheartedly and his strong faith in Him. He was a shepherd who took good care of his sheep and protected them with love. I can imagine that while watching over his sheep, he spent time praising God. This reminds me of the kind of person I want to be, who serves God and others with love, and does everything wholeheartedly for Him.

I chose to dress up as Priscilla. She was one of Jesus' disciples during the new church age. She served as a worker in Christ where she lived, through a house church. I want to be like her, working for God in the places I am placed, like school.

I choose to dress up as Paul because I have a lot to learn from his boldness in spreading the Gospel and his unwavering core strength. He is very persistent towards God's will, and he was not afraid to speak up against Peter and the other apostles when they separated themselves from Gentiles. He also traveled through a lot of countries, creating many churches, and even through struggles he never changed his persistence towards God, which I would also like to have.

I want to dress up as Stephen when the Holy Spirit was with him because I want to be clothed in the holy spirit too.

I have decided to dress up as Jesus… well, sort of. I won’t be trying to dress up exactly like Him, but more as myself “wearing” Him.

A big goal of mine recently has been to reflect Jesus in my daily life. Whether that be through my words or behavior, I want people to “see Him” when they interact with me. I want them to see the joy that He gives me and the love that He fills my heart with.

In all honesty, it hasn’t been easy, as it often means letting go of my own desires/emotions (for the better). Yet, I believe that is the beauty of it; learning to be more like Jesus is how I’ve come to better understand the heart of God. And He has given me two great examples that I have been learning so much from: Masami and Jun Asai—the Pastor’s wife and daughter.

"For all of you who were baptized into Christ [into a spiritual union with the Christ, the Anointed] have clothed yourselves with Christ [that is, you have taken on His characteristics and values].” (Galatians 3:27)

I chose to dress up as Cornelius, since he opened his home and invited many others in when Peter came to preach the gospel. (Acts 10).

I want to be like Cornelius, a vessel who brings others to God. For me, this means inviting my classmates and other college students to church through a Bible verse card, and praise songs so they can come to church and hear more about God’s word.

I dressed up as Queen Esther for Halloween and the Evangelical Meeting. I dressed up as her because I like her bravery in the story of Queen Esther, and also because we both have the same name Esther.

I chose Moses because we share several personality traits, such as stubbornness, a strong sense of justice, and a reluctance to speak in front of large groups. Just as Moses was stubborn in the sense that he didn't obey God's commands right away, I too have that tendency. But, just as Moses was able to overcome his speech insecurity and reluctance to speak in public through his faith, I hope to overcome those same challenges with God's help and practice.
