8/21 Evening Bible Reading

Today we read 1 Chronicles 25, and the participants were Hiyori, Akari, Emiri, and Seiyu. We read from 8:30 pm, and since the chapter mostly contained the names and roles of the musicians organized by David for worship, we decided to just share about our weeks. Emiri shared how she started school this week, and she is taking various classes such as U.S. history, math, English, and tennis.

Akari also shared that she started school this week, and she is taking classes such as a political American seminar class and a computer science class. From today’s chapter, Hiyori learned that everyone has different roles assigned by God and how it’s important to fulfill your role accordingly. Regarding her week, she shared that her physics class is interesting, as the professor’s lectures are interesting.

Timothy, just when we finished sharing, joined and shared how he enjoys his CSA class. He also shared that he met Tomas at school on his way home. Tomas couldn’t join, as he said that he had homework that he needed to finish. I shared that I start school next week and that I will be taking a Japanese class, a kinesiology class, and a math class.

8/21 Morning Bible Reading

10-10:20am

1 Chronicles 24
We did not really have anything to share from this chapter since it was mainly name-listing. Since the next few chapters were the same way, we decided, for our next meeting, we will skip to ch. 28.
Our Week:
Kana shared about how her work started and how a new employee came to work at her restaurant. Kana taught her a little bit, apparently she’s a talker 🤭.
I shared about how I was going out with Seiyu tomorrow and we would be doing some fun activities together.
I had some questions about the newsletter so I asked Kana for some help regarding the format/design of the newsletter.

8/19 Morning Bible Reading

10 – 10:20am
1 Chronicles 22 & 23

What We Learned:

I learned how each person has a different calling. To that calling, the person is given specific talents. David was called to be more of a warrior, so he was given the boldness, strength, and the fighting ability to be able to endure and conquer all his battles. Solomon was called to build the temple, therefore, he was given the wisdom and knowledge to be able to instruct his people on how to properly build the temple according to what God had told him. I have also come to understand that although it is good to try out new things, it is important to know what you’re calling is, because if you try to do something that is not your calling, it will not go well. And if you persist in it, in the end, it will eventually lead to fleshly efforts.
Kana applied what she learned from the camp to ch. 24. From the camp, she learned about being a shepherd and from this story, she could see how David, as the shepherd, was now passing this mantle over to Solomon.
**We decided to make a bit of an adjustment to changing the Thursday Bible Reading time to 12pm instead of 10am per Kanami’s request.

8/8 Evening Bible Reading

Today, we started at 7:40 pm, and we read 1 Chronicles 22, 23, and 24. We decided to read 3 chapters today, as we’ll be busy tomorrow. Emiri learned that her job tomorrow as the greeter for the piano concert is similar to the sacred work of the Levites and that she should take her role seriously. She shared that she finished her online summer course this week and registered for her junior year classes.

Akari learned that David was humble when he made preparations for the temple. She also learned from David to do things out of love for God. Regarding her week, she shared that James and Esther came to their house last night.

Hiyori learned that God always gives you a specific role in the church and that it is important for her to do her role with a sincere heart.
She also learned to not do anything she wasn’t told to do regarding her role. Regarding her week, she shared that she took her last theater class this week.

Timothy learned from chapter 22, verse 19, that the more you seek God and the more you devote yourself to God, the easier it’ll be for God to come closer to you. He also shared that although he can’t attend the summer camp, he is to focus on God during the week. Regarding his week, he shared that he cleaned his room and finished reading his book. He also shared that he went to a stagecraft bonding today.

I learned that manifesting something of high quality for God requires patience and preparation, as David made a lot of preparations to build the temple. I was also reminded that basketball and weightlifting require a ton of preparation and patience.

8/7 Morning Bible Reading

Passage: 1 Chronicles 21

What We Learned:
Since it was still fresh in my mind, reading this passage reminded me of what I learned in the Cornelius meeting yesterday. I shared about how I’ve been learning about the difference between human glory and God’s glory. Humans always seek glory for themselves, wanting themselves to look good in front of others, but God’s glory is what Jesus did. Although he was humiliated and suffered, what he did saved the entire world. I shared about how I am currently learning not to seek human glory, especially (currently) during the upcoming events: the piano concert and the camp. I have learned that the key is in motivation, why are you doing what you are doing. For example, during camp, I will be leading some of the outdoor activities, as the leader, my motivation should be to make sure everyone is happy and having a good time. In this way, I will not be focused on myself but on how I can help others.
Kanami learned that it is always important to be humble and be able to acknowledge when you are wrong. David was humble, so right after he sinned, he immediately repented to God, admitting that what he did was wrong. The reason for this is because he had a strong relationship with God, which allowed David to trust him.

7/31 & 8/5 Morning Bible Reading

7/31:

Time: 10:00 – 10:20
Passage: 1 Chronicles 18
What We Learned:
I want to learn from David’s example of how he dedicated everything to God. Whatever he did, he always did it for God and for his people, that they may live in peace.
Kana learned about the relationship David had with God and how he always trusted God to provide for him.
8/5
Time: 10 – 10:25
Passage: 1 Chronicles 19 – 20
What We Learned:
We both talked about how in ch. 19, Hanun listened to human words and as a result, his initial judgement was poor as he misunderstood David’s empathy as a way for David to take advantage of him and try to take over his land. From this, I learned how important it is to have the wisdom of God. Because if you don’t, you will not end up making the right decision. If Hanun was to trust David, that could still be a dangerous way of going about because it is not smart to trust people all the time in this world, unfortunately. I kind of have a habit of doing this. Therefore, I learned that the wisdom of God is the only way you can determine properly what the right thing to do is in any scenario.
Our Week:
Some of the youth gathered together in person for practice at the Narikawa house, so I asked Kana if she did anything fun with them after our practice. She said they just practiced once again, chatted a little, and left. 😄
I shared about my experience for my college’s student orientation, I had a great time!

7/29 Morning Bible Reading

Time: 10:00 – 10:25 am

Passage: 1 Chronicles 16 & 17
What We Learned:
Since we had just had guitar practice right before this meeting, while reading the first passage, what stood out to me was how David appointed people for specific tasks for praise, he didn’t just have everyone do the same thing. This reminded me of how Masami-san suggested us to have some people play guitars and some people just praise for our camp songs. This made me realize that each person is different, some people are more suited for singing while others may be more suited for playing instruments. I realized that this is how you lead, by being able to see each person’s talent and using that so that they can bring out the best of themselves. I want the Holy Spirit to give me the wisdom to be able to discern these things.
From the second passage, I was reminded that God is the one who provides. Often times, while doing work for the church, I have had the mindset of thinking that I am helping God out. But, God does not need any help. Hoshi is something for our benefit. God is allowing (I don’t really like using that word) us to do it, so that he can bless not just us but all the other people that work may be serving.
Kanami learned about how praise is about thanking God. She was reminded that she should always have that heart to thank God while praising.
Our Week:
I shared about how I spent my day with Joshua, Timothy, and Seiyu last Friday.

She gave an example of how if she’s negative during kids club, that can affect the kids, and they too can become negative in regard to how they act and what they say. Morning Bible Reading 7/10, 7/15, and 7/16

7/10

Time: 10:00-10:35am
Passage: 2 Kings 25
What We Learned:
To me, v.27-30 stuck to me the most. I felt that Evilmerodach freeing Jehoiachin and giving him a seat above kings symbolized how Jesus graciously freed us and gave us seats next to the Father in heaven. V.29 states how Jehoiachin put off his prison garments. To me that represents how I took off my old self and put on Jesus. This reminded me of what I learned in the Cornelius meeting, a couple days before. I learned that the reason Adam did not feel naked in the Garden was because he had spiritual clothes on and he ruled as a king. However, that was taken away after he sinned, but, Jesus won it back for us. By wearing these spiritual clothes, we represent him and his spirit flows through us. And the way his spirit goes out is through our mouths. I talked about how, during the Cornelius meeting, we opened up the passage in Isaiah, where he sees the glory of God trying to go out of the temple. The temple represents our bodies and the entrance is our mouths. Therefore, by becoming aware of the power that my mouth holds, it helps me to be more careful as to what I say.
7/15:
Time: 10:00am – 10:35am
*Since, the first 9 chapters are mostly genealogies, we vaguely skimmed through it and started at ch. 10.
Passage: 1 Chronicles 10 & 11
What We Learned:
Ch. 10
I learned about seeking guidance from God. From reading about Saul, throughout most of his life, he always took action according to his own calculations and what he thought was best for himself. For example, when Samuel was late for the offering, Saul became panicked bc his army was ready to leave him, so he just offered the sacrifice for himself, instead of trusting God. Or, when he was told by God to kill all the people, he left the best alive. From this, I can see that he did not have a good relationship with God, because if he did, he would know God and trust him to come through. However, since he did not really know God, he thought that he had to do everything himself because God could not. This is something I am currently learning to do more: to develop a relationship with him so that I can learn to trust him and seek guidance from him.
Ch. 11:
On the other hand, God was with David, as v.9 states, meaning that David always trusted God and did his will. The reason he was able to do that was because he had a relationship with God and so by always talking with him, he knew what God’s will was. Therefore, he did not have to calculate because he knew that God would provide. I also desire to do God’s will and always be with him, currently right now, God has put me in the position to be a leader in the church in multiple areas, and what he has been teaching me right now is to speak my mind more and not back down from others even if they may try to shut me down or go against what I say.
Kanami shared how she believed that there was a reason that this passage, talking about David’s mighty men, was written down in the Bible. She believes that God provided and brought these mighty men together to support David. In the same way, God brought the Davar youth together, therefore, she believes that as God’s family, we should also come together as なかま、and support each other.
7/16
*We decided to have the second Bible reading on Wednesday bc tomorrow, I will be going to an orientation for my college with my parents.
Time: 10-10:16am
Passage: 1 Chronicles 12
What We Learned:
From this passage, I could see how much God was with David. Since David always stayed close to God, meaning he always trusted in him and did his will, God provided for everything else. This is something I want to be able to do, I want to be able to truly seek God first with no other motive other than wanting to really get to know him. Bc I have come to understand more that when you put God first, he will make everything go right. I have talked about in the past how it’s been difficult sometimes as the youth leader to bring everyone on board with things, but I have learned that instead of me trying to chase after everyone in this way, I can just focus on what God wants me to do and he will bring everyone to me. That’s what I believe was happening here in this chapter, David simply followed God and as a result, God brought all these people under him to support him.

7/17/25 Evening Bible Reading

We started at 7:30 pm, and the participants were Hiyori, Emiri, Akari, Timothy, Tomas, and Seiyu. Hiyori learned that

David didn’t prepare his people enough when bringing the ark, which led to consequences. She also shared how it is important that she prepare herself for the upcoming camp outdoor activities, as she will be leading some of them. She said she can prepare herself by praying to God about the activities.

Regarding her week, she practiced guitar today, and she also said that her summer classes will end in July. Emiri learned that Uzzah didn’t know the seriousness of bringing the ark, which was why he died. Regarding her week, she shared that in one of her summer classes, she joined an activity where they put a bunch of rubber bands on a watermelon and waited till it cracked open. She shared that this can be one of the camp pool activities.

Akari learned that Uzzah’s death was a result of the Israelites mindset. She also shared that God was trying to teach them to sanctify everything for him and that he is holy. Regarding her week, she shared that she made tanghulu today using a takoyaki pan.

Tomas learned that whatever you do for God, you should do it seriously. He also shared that he got free sushi after his volunteering activity.

Timothy shared that the people did what they thought was good and that they didn’t do what God saw as God. He also mentioned that someone like David, who was close to God, had flaws and that the people treated the act of bringing the ark like a festival, which displeased God. From this, he shared that he needs to stop sleeping during the service and to have respect for God.

Regarding his week, he shared that he practiced guitar during the week and that he had cake from 85 Degrees Bakery for his birthday. He also mentioned that he finished watching Bleach. I learned that you shouldn’t do things you are not supposed to do, and Uzzah did something he wasn’t supposed to do. I also shared that the act of steadying the ark wasn’t bad, but Uzzah’s motivation was most likely bad, which led to consequences. I shared that it is important that I only do things that I am instructed to do regarding the upcoming piano concert and camp.

7/12/25 Evening Bible Reading

Today, we read 1 Chronicles 11 and 12. The participants were Akari, Hiyori, Emiri, Tomas, Timothy, and Seiyu.

Akari learned that the Israelites were very supportive of David, which was why he was successful as a king. He was also successful as he obeyed God and his commands. She shared that she is a part of God’s army, and one of her jobs is to obey commands of the leaders and to be loyal to God. This week she made a tote bag to use during the weekly flyer times.

Hiyori was reminded through today’s chapters to use her knowledge and talents solely for God. She shared that she went to CSULB to pass out flyers today with her sisters and Timothy.

Emiri learned that just as the Israelites supported David to the best of their abilities, she is to support God in the same way. She said she feels like she can support God more by inviting more of her friends to the piano concert. Regarding her week, she shared that she had fun yesterday and she enjoyed smelling different kinds of candles with Yui.

Tomas thought it was interesting how David was able to gather all of his people as God gave him authority and power to rule. He also shared that he enjoyed yesterday’s birthday activities.

Midway through the Bible reading, Timothy wasn’t answering, so we decided to continue the reading and share without him.

I learned that the Israelites had good unity with David, which was why they were successful. I shared that it is important to have unity regarding the upcoming concert and to cooperate with each other to pass out as many flyers as we can.
