Morning Bible Reading 9/11

2 Chronicles 7

What We Learned:
What I had learned from the Cornelius meeting the night before was still fresh in my mind, so it was all I could really think about at the moment. After reading God’s answer to Solomon’s prayer, I was reminded once again about putting God first. I want to be able to stop thinking about myself so much and entrust myself to him and instead, be able to focus more on helping the people around me.
Kanami learned about how she should always remember to have a heart of thanksgiving for all the things that God has done for her.

Morning Bible Reading 9/9

2 Chronicles 5-6

What We Learned:
Reading this passage, I could see how much Solomon had the wellbeing of others on his mind, it wasn’t just for his people but for other foreigners  as well. The reason being that he was always trying to do God’s will, in other words, he was always putting God first. Therefore, his mind was always in line with God. I want to be able to do the same thing as well, to put God first and come to have the same mind as him.
Kanami learned about the humbleness of Solomon. By humbleness, she means, that Solomon knew that God would always take care of him and his kingdom. Thus, the reason why he gave out all those scenarios in his prayer in ch. 6, it’s because he knew God’s loving character and would hear his requests for his people and anyone else who came to his kingdom.
Our Weeks:
Kanami shared how yesterday, she went out with Ulan and Kat after their house church to play tennis together and she had a great time. She also shared how she went to practice with her group at the Narikawa house.
I shared how I spent practically the whole day with James and Timothy after the meeting on Saturday. I had a great time practicing, eating, and talking with them.
We then talked about our final edits to the newsletter before presenting it.

I learned about the importance of worship and how worship can keep your heart in the right place. Worshipping God with the right heart also makes it easier for God to grant your request, just as Solomon did when he worshipped God before presenting his request.

Morning Bible Reading 8/26 & 8/28

8/26: 10:00-10:30am

Passage: 1 Chronicles 28-29

Something that stood out to me from this passage was how everyone was able to come together in unity. The reason being that everyone was acting according to God’s will. David, the king, acted accordingly to God’s will and so, as a result, God was able to work, resulting in everyone coming together and supporting the kingdom by providing the needs to build the temple. I have learned that if I am ever in a position of leadership, I should always make sure that I am acting according to God’s will because if not, it will turn into something of my own fleshly efforts and desires. I also learn that even if I may not be the leader, if it is something I am involved in, I should do what I can to help the leader and make his/her job easier. For example, for this upcoming Labor Day, even though I’m not the leader, I should still do what I can to help and support the leaders.

Kanami shared about how she could apply what she learned about being a shepherd from the camp to this passage. Here, David passed down the torch of the crown to his son Solomon and taught him and showed him the ways and responsibilities of being a king. She learned that she should do the same if she is ever in the position of passing a responsibility down to another.

*We didn’t have much to share about our weeks, so we talked about the upcoming newsletter. Kana has agreed to help me with the format of creating the newsletter.

8/28: 12:10-12:30pm

Passage: 2 Chronicles 1

From this passage, I was reminded of what I learned in the Cornelius meeting the previous day. I learned about how I should always look at the world through God’s eyes. From his eyes, this world is full of lost sheep (Ezek 34:4), people who have all sorts of problems. By viewing this world with this perspective, we will come to have the heart of God of wanting to help these people. I also learned that humans are sheep in the sense that they are not created to live without a shepherd. I have come to understand how much I need this wisdom and knowledge that Solomon is asking for in order to be a shepherd.

Kanami shared about how she has also learned to be shepherd at her workplace. When serving customers, she was told by her boss that she needs to watch carefully what the customers prefer on their dishes based on how they eat. For example, when serving something like sushi, it often comes with a side of garlic. There are some customers who always eat all the garlic, while there are others who don’t. Therefore, she must adjust accordingly based on the preference of the customer.

*We once again discussed some things about the newsletter after sharing.

Thus, she should prepare for these things and plan ahead just like Solomon did when planning out the temple and eventually becoming king.

From verses 20 and 21, I was reminded that there is nothing for me to be afraid of, as God is always by my side. Regarding my week, I shared that I started school this week and that the Japanese class I am taking this semester requires more studying than the Japanese class I took last semester.

8/21 Morning Bible Reading

10-10:20am

1 Chronicles 24
We did not really have anything to share from this chapter since it was mainly name-listing. Since the next few chapters were the same way, we decided, for our next meeting, we will skip to ch. 28.
Our Week:

ニュースレターについていくつか質問があったので、カナにニュースレターのフォーマットとデザインについて相談しました。

8/19 Morning Bible Reading

10 – 10:20am
1 Chronicles 22 & 23

What We Learned:

I learned how each person has a different calling. To that calling, the person is given specific talents. David was called to be more of a warrior, so he was given the boldness, strength, and the fighting ability to be able to endure and conquer all his battles. Solomon was called to build the temple, therefore, he was given the wisdom and knowledge to be able to instruct his people on how to properly build the temple according to what God had told him. I have also come to understand that although it is good to try out new things, it is important to know what you’re calling is, because if you try to do something that is not your calling, it will not go well. And if you persist in it, in the end, it will eventually lead to fleshly efforts.
Kana applied what she learned from the camp to ch. 24. From the camp, she learned about being a shepherd and from this story, she could see how David, as the shepherd, was now passing this mantle over to Solomon.
**We decided to make a bit of an adjustment to changing the Thursday Bible Reading time to 12pm instead of 10am per Kanami’s request.

8/8 Evening Bible Reading

Today, we started at 7:40 pm, and we read 1 Chronicles 22, 23, and 24. We decided to read 3 chapters today, as we’ll be busy tomorrow. Emiri learned that her job tomorrow as the greeter for the piano concert is similar to the sacred work of the Levites and that she should take her role seriously. She shared that she finished her online summer course this week and registered for her junior year classes.

Akari learned that David was humble when he made preparations for the temple. She also learned from David to do things out of love for God. Regarding her week, she shared that James and Esther came to their house last night.

Hiyori learned that God always gives you a specific role in the church and that it is important for her to do her role with a sincere heart.
She also learned to not do anything she wasn’t told to do regarding her role. Regarding her week, she shared that she took her last theater class this week.

Timothy learned from chapter 22, verse 19, that the more you seek God and the more you devote yourself to God, the easier it’ll be for God to come closer to you. He also shared that although he can’t attend the summer camp, he is to focus on God during the week. Regarding his week, he shared that he cleaned his room and finished reading his book. He also shared that he went to a stagecraft bonding today.

I learned that manifesting something of high quality for God requires patience and preparation, as David made a lot of preparations to build the temple. I was also reminded that basketball and weightlifting require a ton of preparation and patience.

8/7 Morning Bible Reading

Passage: 1 Chronicles 21

What We Learned:
Since it was still fresh in my mind, reading this passage reminded me of what I learned in the Cornelius meeting yesterday. I shared about how I’ve been learning about the difference between human glory and God’s glory. Humans always seek glory for themselves, wanting themselves to look good in front of others, but God’s glory is what Jesus did. Although he was humiliated and suffered, what he did saved the entire world. I shared about how I am currently learning not to seek human glory, especially (currently) during the upcoming events: the piano concert and the camp. I have learned that the key is in motivation, why are you doing what you are doing. For example, during camp, I will be leading some of the outdoor activities, as the leader, my motivation should be to make sure everyone is happy and having a good time. In this way, I will not be focused on myself but on how I can help others.
Kanami learned that it is always important to be humble and be able to acknowledge when you are wrong. David was humble, so right after he sinned, he immediately repented to God, admitting that what he did was wrong. The reason for this is because he had a strong relationship with God, which allowed David to trust him.

7/31 & 8/5 Morning Bible Reading

7/31:

Time: 10:00 – 10:20
Passage: 1 Chronicles 18
What We Learned:
I want to learn from David’s example of how he dedicated everything to God. Whatever he did, he always did it for God and for his people, that they may live in peace.
Kana learned about the relationship David had with God and how he always trusted God to provide for him.
8/5
Time: 10 – 10:25
Passage: 1 Chronicles 19 – 20
What We Learned:
We both talked about how in ch. 19, Hanun listened to human words and as a result, his initial judgement was poor as he misunderstood David’s empathy as a way for David to take advantage of him and try to take over his land. From this, I learned how important it is to have the wisdom of God. Because if you don’t, you will not end up making the right decision. If Hanun was to trust David, that could still be a dangerous way of going about because it is not smart to trust people all the time in this world, unfortunately. I kind of have a habit of doing this. Therefore, I learned that the wisdom of God is the only way you can determine properly what the right thing to do is in any scenario.
Our Week:
Some of the youth gathered together in person for practice at the Narikawa house, so I asked Kana if she did anything fun with them after our practice. She said they just practiced once again, chatted a little, and left. 😄
I shared about my experience for my college’s student orientation, I had a great time!

7/29 Morning Bible Reading

Time: 10:00 – 10:25 am

Passage: 1 Chronicles 16 & 17
What We Learned:
Since we had just had guitar practice right before this meeting, while reading the first passage, what stood out to me was how David appointed people for specific tasks for praise, he didn’t just have everyone do the same thing. This reminded me of how Masami-san suggested us to have some people play guitars and some people just praise for our camp songs. This made me realize that each person is different, some people are more suited for singing while others may be more suited for playing instruments. I realized that this is how you lead, by being able to see each person’s talent and using that so that they can bring out the best of themselves. I want the Holy Spirit to give me the wisdom to be able to discern these things.
From the second passage, I was reminded that God is the one who provides. Often times, while doing work for the church, I have had the mindset of thinking that I am helping God out. But, God does not need any help. Hoshi is something for our benefit. God is allowing (I don’t really like using that word) us to do it, so that he can bless not just us but all the other people that work may be serving.
Kanami learned about how praise is about thanking God. She was reminded that she should always have that heart to thank God while praising.
Our Week:
I shared about how I spent my day with Joshua, Timothy, and Seiyu last Friday.
